the most coveted place to buy vintage right now

the most coveted place to buy vintage right now

I have to say that my obsession first began with the website oblist, co-founded by paris-based creative and entrepreneur leia fez. "oblist's vision is to create a space that celebrates exceptional art and encourages discovery so that individuals can find unique objects that reflect their own distinct taste." I've become a bit obsessed with validating the new in. a couple of sets of vintage glasses, then some christofle silverware for the house, deep down I believed I was benchmarking.

then I started to investigate this world more and became a daily visitor to sites like invaluable, auctionet, pamono, and 1stdibs.

the invaluable and the auctionet, partners with the world’s premier auction houses to make it easy for collectors from around the world to discover and acquire the items they are most passionate about all in one place. pamono and 1stdibs are marketplaces specializing in distinctive design objects. here you can find vintage pieces but you can find new authors too.

for someone obsessed with objects and design, it's like finding an "el dorado". the truth is that over time I've realized that I don't love fashion or jewelry in particular, I love objects, their form, and how they relate to a space and a context. understanding their timelessness, whether they have it or not, is fascinating. mind you, I'm not one of those people who appreciates everything vintage; on the contrary, I'm reluctant if an object isn't in a good state of repair. but when it comes to form, if it's eternal, then there's a different kind of fascination. some objects transcend creation, and finding them in these "el dorado" at super-competitive prices is great fun.

something that's also interesting here is that it significantly reduces my consumption habits because 90% of my time is spent researching, 9% is spent auctioning something that we may never win and probably only 1% will mean buying.

I challenge you to get involved in this world. the truth is that I put on some calm music and I'm transported to a flea market looking for the most coveted and captivating furniture, home décor, art, and fine jewelry.
