HOW TO PRESERVE YOUR JEWELRY
Passing CINCO to the next generation is not just a goal for us — it is the reason we do what we do.
These metals were forged in stars. They have existed longer than any of us, and they will outlast us too. What we owe them — and the people who will wear them after us — is simple: to make stories with them, to care for them, and one day, to pass them on.
Below you will find everything you need to keep your pieces looking their best — for years, and for the people who come after you.
A small act of care today is a gift to whoever inherits them tomorrow.
DAILY CARE
How do I care for my silver jewelry?
Silver is a living material — it reacts to light, air, moisture and the products you put on your skin. A few simple habits make all the difference:
- Remove your jewel before showering, swimming or going to the beach
- Avoid contact with perfumes, creams and skincare products — put your jewel on last
- Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth after wearing
- Store each piece separately, away from other jewels, in a dry place
The more consistently you follow these steps, the longer your piece will keep its original finish.
Can I wear CINCO jewelry in the pool or the sea?
We recommend removing your jewels before swimming. Both chlorinated water and salt water accelerate the oxidation of silver and the wear of gold plating, dulling the finish faster than normal use. It is a small habit that significantly extends the life of your piece.
Can my gold-plated jewelry lose its finish?
Yes — and this is completely normal. Gold plating is a layer of gold applied over the silver base, and it will wear naturally over time, especially with frequent use, contact with water, perfumes or sweat.
The rate of wear depends on how the piece is cared for. Pieces that are removed before bathing, kept away from products and stored properly will hold their finish significantly longer than those exposed to daily contact with water and chemicals.
What accelerates tarnishing or colour loss?
Several everyday substances speed up the process considerably:
- Salt water and sea air
- Chlorinated water
- Perfumes, hairspray, body oils and makeup
- Household cleaning products
- Rubber bands and certain types of paper, which contain sulphur compounds
- Humidity and heat
The rule is simple: your jewel goes on last and comes off first.
What is CINCO jewelry actually made of — down to the last detail?
Yes — and so do we. Every CINCO piece is fully traceable, from the 925 sterling silver base to the solder used to join each component. Every metal in every piece has been verified and documented. No nickel. No hidden alloys. No surprises.
Because caring for your jewelry starts before it ever reaches you.
STORAGE
How should I store my CINCO jewels?
Store each piece individually in a soft pouch or the original CINCO pouch, away from humidity and direct sunlight. Avoid leaving jewels in the bathroom, where moisture and steam accelerate tarnishing. Keeping pieces separated also prevents scratches from contact with other metals.
Why does CINCO offer a simple pouch instead of an impressive paper box?
Because we thought about what happens the day after you open it.
Paper boxes are beautiful for five minutes — then they go in the bin. Our pouches are made from a soft jewellery-grade cloth that does exactly what storage should do: protect your piece from scratches, absorb moisture and keep it away from light and air.
It is not just packaging. It is the first act of care your jewel receives — and the one that continues every single time you put it away.
One less box in the bin. One more reason to keep your jewelry exactly as it should be.
RESTORATION
What do I do if my silver jewelry tarnishes?
Tarnishing — a gradual darkening or yellowing of silver — is a natural process caused by the reaction of silver with sulphur compounds in the air and on the skin. It does not mean your piece is damaged. It means it is real.
To restore it, clean gently with a soft silver polishing cloth. For a deeper clean, use a mild detergent with warm water and a very soft toothbrush, rinse thoroughly with clear water and dry with a soft cloth. For gold-plated pieces, use only a soft dry cloth — never a polishing cloth, which can remove the plating.
How do I clean my CINCO pieces at home?
For silver and gold-plated pieces, clean regularly with a clean, soft cloth. For a deeper clean, use a mild detergent with warm water and a soft toothbrush, rinse with clear water and dry thoroughly.
For 18k and 19.2k solid gold pieces, mix a few drops of detergent-free soap with warm water, soak one piece at a time, clean gently with a very soft brush, then dry with a soft non-abrasive cloth. Solid gold will never fade — if you notice any surface change, a gentle rub with a soft cloth is all it needs.
Note: never use a polishing cloth on gold-plated pieces — it can remove the plating layer.
Do you offer polishing or gold plating renewal?
Yes. A jewel with meaning deserves a second life, not a drawer. If your piece has lost its shine or its gold finish has worn over time, contact us at customer@cinco-store.comand we will advise you on the best option. Silver polishing and gold plating renewal services are both available.
PASSING IT ON
Can I give CINCO jewelry to a child?
Not only can you — it is one of the most thoughtful decisions you can make. Precisely because CINCO jewels are safe, certified and built to last, they are also the first jewels that make sense to give to a child.
But there is something beyond safety here. CINCO is a brand that mothers wear, that daughters admire, and that creates a shared language between them. Giving a CINCO jewel to a child is not just a gift — it is an introduction. It is the moment when an appreciation for quality, for objects with meaning, for pieces that are kept rather than discarded, begins to take shape.
How do I teach my daughter to care for her jewel?
The care routine for a child's jewel is exactly the same as for any CINCO piece — and that is precisely the point.
Teaching a child to remove her jewel before bathing, to store it in its own place, to clean it gently with a soft cloth — these are small gestures that build an early understanding that beautiful things deserve attention. That looking after something is also a way of loving it.
It is also a moment of connection. A shared ritual between mother and daughter, built around something that has meaning and is made to last.
My skin seems to affect my gold-plated pieces. Is that normal?
Yes, and it is more common than most people realise. Each person's skin has a unique pH level, and in some cases that chemistry interacts with gold plating, accelerating color changes — particularly in areas where the piece is in close and constant contact with the skin. This is not a quality issue. It is simply the nature of real materials meeting real skin.
If this happens consistently, our gold plating renewal service is always available. And in some cases, switching to a solid gold piece may be the most lasting solution. Contact us at customer@cinco-store.com and we will help you find the right answer for your skin and your piece.
